A Dual-Mode Step-Down Converter with Automatic Mode Switch Circuit for System-on-Chip Applications

In this paper, a dual-mode step-down DC-DC converter with an automatic mode-switching circuit is implemented in 28 nm digital CMOS process and embedded RF transceiver chip to power the part. The proposed includes frequency-voltage conversion that designed according principle of charge redistribution on capacitance. can switch modes load without external intervention. This converter, along PMU sequencer, also provide solution for low-power design system-on-chip applications. IC occupies total die area 0.378 mm2. input voltage 3.3 V, output 1.05 maximum current reach 1 A. shows efficiency not less than 81% at full range achieve peak 91% when 100 mA. PWM mode A 50 mA, PFM mA combination zero-crossing detection circuitry freewheel switches reduce energy loss eliminate additional electromagnetic interference.
